President’s College Kotte: Implementing an Ambitious Ground Development Project

President’s College Kotte has officially greenlit an ambitious ground development and pavilion construction project set to transform the school’s sporting and community facilities.

In a landmark meeting held recently at the school premises, representatives from the Friends of President’s College Association (FPCA), School Past Pupils, and President’s College Union (PCU) formally handed over the project development responsibilities to the School Administration and School Development Society.

Mrs. Bagya Rupasinghe, Principal of President’s College, Kotte, expressed strong support for the initiative, granting the necessary authority to proceed with construction and allocating a suitable location for the pavilion and associated facilities on the school grounds.

“This development represents a significant milestone for our institution,” stated Mrs. Rupasinghe. “The new facilities will enhance both our sporting capabilities and provide much-needed multipurpose spaces for various school activities.”

The project is being spearheaded by Mr. Chanaka Jayatillake, President and Founder of the Friends of President’s College Association, alongside key FPCA members Mr. Asanka Perera (Vice President), Ms. Dilini Surangi (Vice President), Mr. Nimesh Liyanage (Secretary) and Mr. Rathnayaka, Secretary of the School Development Society, will oversee coordination with school administration.

What makes this project particularly noteworthy is that the professional team handling the architectural design and technical specifications consists entirely of President’s College alumni who have established successful careers in architecture, engineering, and construction.

“We are currently finalising the architectural drawings and technical requirements with our team of professionals,” said Mr. Jayatillake. “It’s incredibly meaningful that former students who benefited from their education at President’s College are now contributing their expertise back to their alma mater.”

The proposed pavilion will serve multiple functions beyond sporting events, potentially hosting school gatherings, cultural performances, and community activities. Detailed plans, including cost estimates and construction timelines, will be announced once the project specifications are finalised.

This development initiative represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments at President’s College in recent years and demonstrates the strong ongoing commitment of alumni to supporting their former school.

Updates on the project’s progress will be shared regularly through official school communications channels. Those interested in supporting this initiative are encouraged to contact the FPCA or the School Development Society.
