Principal Bhagya Roopasinghe has announced that arrangements have been made to construct a fully-fledged multi-purpose sports stadium and sports ground complex at Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte President’s College at a cost exceeding 350 million rupees.
“This school was established in Torrington on February 4, 1978, by the then President J.R. Jayewardene. Today, the college has moved to the Rajagiriya area. This project, scheduled to commence work as the largest development project in the college’s 47-year history, was announced by the Principal at a special media conference held at the college this morning (04th),” she said.
She also stated that the official commencement of ground-breaking and other activities for this project, to be constructed by the Sri Jayewardenepura President’s College Alumni Association and the President’s College Friendship Association, will take place on the 9th through a gala evening including a charity dinner at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla.
The Principal mentioned that she discussed this project with the heads of the two aforementioned associations as a proposal for school development after assuming duties as the school’s principal, and that it has now progressed to the implementation stage.
Friends of President’s College Association President Chanaka Jayatilaka said:
“We received our education at this school under various deficiencies and inadequate facilities. We must not pass on the hardships we experienced to the new generation and future children. Accordingly, we have planned to construct a fully-fledged sports stadium and sports ground complex of a kind not seen in any school in the Sri Jayewardenepura area.
We have planned to complete this so it can be opened on the day the college turns 50 years old.
The design has been presented by the college’s distinguished alumnus, architect Channa Wijeypala. A modern stadium with fully-fledged facilities, cricket, football, rugby and other sports grounds will be constructed here. It is planned to be completed in several phases.”
The college’s new project manager Duminda Kularatna said:
“Currently, the school is progressing and excelling in cricket and rugby. The new project will help develop these further.”
At this event, several people including Menaka Jayawardena, Asanka Sanjeewa Perera, and Varuna Nimesh Liyanage, who hold positions in the college’s Alumni Association and Friendship Association, expressed their views.

රුපියල් මිලියන 350කට අධික මුදලක් වියදම් කරමින් ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර කෝට්ටේ ජනාධිපති විද්‍යාලයේ අංග සම්පූර්ණ බහු විධි ක්‍රීඩා ප්‍රේක්ෂකාගාරයක් සහ ක්‍රීඩා පිටි සංකීර්ණයක් ඉදි කිරීමේ කටයුතු සංවිධානය කොට ඇතැයි විදුහල්පතිනී භාග්‍යා රූපසිංහ ප්‍රකාශ කළාය.
”වසර 1978 පෙබරවාරි 04 වෙනිදා එවකට ජනාධිපති ජේ.ආර්.ජයවර්ධන ජනාධිපතිතුමා විසින් ටොරින්ටන් වලදී මෙම පාසල ආරම්භ කළා. අද විද්‍යාලය රාජගිරිය ප්‍රදේශයට පැමිණ තිබෙනවා.
විද්‍යාලයේ වසර 47ක ඉතිහාසය තුළ දැවැන්තම සංවර්ධන ව්‍යාපෘතිය ලෙස වැඩ ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිත මෙම කටයුත්ත පිළිබඳව මාධ්‍යයට කරුණු දක්වමින් අද (04) පෙරවරුවේ විද්‍යාලයේ පැවැති විශේෂ මාධ්‍ය හමුව අමතමින් විදුහල්පතිනිය මේ බව කීවාය.
ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර ජනාධිපති විද්‍යාලයේ ආදි ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමය සහ ජනාධිපති විද්‍යාලයීය මිත්‍රත්ව සංගමය විසින් ඉදිකිරීමට නියමිත මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ බර පැන සොයා ගැනීම ඇතුලු අනෙකුත් කටයුතු නිල වශයෙන් ආරම්භ කිරීම ලබන 09 වෙනිදා බත්තරමුල්ල වෝටර්ස් එජ් හෝටලයේදී පැවැත්වෙන ප්‍රිය සම්භාෂණයක් ඇතුලු වර්ණ රාත්‍රියකින් සිදු කෙරෙන බවද ඇය කීවාය.
විදුහලේ විදුහල්පතිනිය ලෙස වැඩ භාර ගැනීමෙන් පසු පාසලේ දියුණුවට කරන යෝජනාවක් ලෙස තමා මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඉහතකී සංගම් දෙකෙහි ප්‍රධානීන් සමග සාකච්ඡා කළ බවත් ඉන් අනතුරුව එය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ තත්ත්වයට මේ වන විට වැඩිදියුණු වී ඇති බවත් විදුහල්පතිනිය මෙහිදී කීවාය.
ජනාධිපති විද්‍යාලයේ මිත්‍රත්ව සංගමයේ සභාපති චානක ජයතිලක,
අප මෙම පාසලෙන් අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබුවේ විවිධ අඩු පාඩු සහ අඩු පහසුකම් යටතේයි. අප විදි දුක් නව පරපුරට සහ අනාගත දූ දරුවන්ට උරුම කර නොදිය යුතුයි. ඒ අනුවයි අප ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර කලාපයේ පාසලක දක්නට නොලැබෙන ආකාරයට ඉතා අංග සම්පූර්ණ ක්‍රීඩා ප්‍රේක්ෂකාගාරයක් සහ ක්‍රීඩා පිටි සංකීර්ණයක් ඉදි කිරීමට සැලසුම් කළා.
විද්‍යාලයට වසර 50ක් පිරෙන දිනට මෙය විවෘත කිරීමට හැකිවන ආකාරයට සිදු කිරීමටයි අප සැලසුම් කර තිබෙන්නේ.
විද්‍යාලයේ කීර්තිමත් ආදි ශිෂ්‍ය ගෘහ නිර්මාණ ශිල්පී චන්න විජේපාල මෙහි සැලසුම ඉදිරිපත් කොට ඇත. එහි අංග සම්පූර්ණ පහසුකම් වලින් යුතු නවීන ප්‍රේක්ෂකාගාරයක්, ක්‍රිකට්, පාපන්දු, රග්බි ඇතුලු ක්‍රීඩා පිටි මෙහි ඉදි කරනවා. එය අදියට කිහිපයක් යටතේ සිදු කිරිමට සැලසුම් කර තිබෙනවා.
විද්‍යාලයේ නව ව්‍යාපෘතිය භාර කළමණාකරු දුමින්ද කුලරත්න,
දැනට විදුහලේ ක්‍රිකට්, රගර් ක්‍රීඩා වලින් වැඩි දස්කම් දක්වමින් ඉදිරියට එමින් සිටිනවා. ඒවා තව දුරටත් දියුණු කිරීමට නව ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඉවහල් වනවා.
මෙහිදී විද්‍යාලයේ ආදි ශිෂ්‍ය සංගමයේ සහ මිත්‍රත්තව සංගමයේ නිලතල දරණ මේනක ජයවර්ධන, අසංක සංජීව පෙරේරා, වරුණ නිමේෂ් ලියනගේ ඇතුලු කිහිප දෙනෙකු අදහස් පළ කළහ.
